Fibonacci Format
Variable nested rectangles Variable nested rectangles
A variable canvas with nested Fibonacci-sequence rectangles. The recursive subdivision that approaches the golden ratio as it grows.
About this size
The Fibonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21...) generates rectangles whose proportions converge toward φ as the numbers grow. Each new rectangle is the sum of the previous two, which is also how the golden spiral gets built: arc through each square in sequence and the curve emerges from the geometry.
The practical use is composition study rather than strict design rule. Overlaying Fibonacci subdivisions on existing work shows how rectangular hierarchy guides the eye, which is useful for diagnosing why a layout works or does not.

Pro tips
- 1 The Fibonacci sequence approaches the golden ratio as it grows. Useful for seeing where φ emerges from iterative processes.
- 2 Overlay on photographic or illustrated work to study how rectangular subdivisions guide the eye.
- 3 A composition study tool more than a design constraint. The geometry suggests structure; the design has to do the work.
