About this size

The 11 by 17 poster is the transition format between flyer and poster. Small enough that an office printer with a Tabloid tray can produce it; large enough that the design has to work at across-the-room reading distance, not just arm's length.

That distance change is what catches designers used to working at Letter size. A flyer that reads cleanly when held in hand can read as a wall of text when blown up to 11 by 17 and viewed from six feet away.

Pro tips

  1. 1 Same dimensions as Tabloid. Most office printers with a Tabloid paper tray can produce this size in-house.
  2. 2 Plan readability from across a room. What works as a flyer up close can fail as a poster at viewing distance.
  3. 3 Type weight matters more than at flyer size. Thin headlines that read at arm's length disappear at six feet.
