6 x 4 in CMYK 3:2 landscape

A 6 by 4 in postcard. The standard USPS-mailable size for promotional and personal postcards, with conventions baked into how mail handling expects the back to be laid out.

about the size of a postcard

About this size

The 6 by 4 postcard is sized to USPS automation rules. The back has a fixed convention: the right half is the address block, the left half is the message, and the postage area is the upper right corner. Deviating from that layout makes the card harder for sorting equipment to read, which means slower delivery and occasional return.

The front is the design canvas. That is where the postcard does the work of being seen, remembered, and (in promotional contexts) acted on.

Pro tips

  1. 1 Add 0.125 in bleed for commercial print. Postcards are trimmed from sheets and edge precision varies.
  2. 2 Leave a clear address block on the back-right half. USPS sorting equipment needs that area readable for machine routing.
  3. 3 Use the back-left half for the message and the front for the hero image. Diverging from that convention confuses both readers and equipment.

Export notes

Export front and back as a single two-page CMYK PDF at 300 DPI with 0.125 in bleed on all four sides (final trim area 6.25 by 4.25 in). For USPS mailing, leave the upper-right corner of the back blank for postage and the right half clear for the address block; the sorting equipment will reject cards where the address area is unreadable.
