8K UHD

7680 x 4320 px sRGB 16:9 landscape

A 7680 by 4320 px 8K UHD canvas. Four times the pixel count of 4K and the resolution ceiling for consumer video work today.

7680 x 4320 px

larger than a typical desktop display

About this size

Almost no one needs to design at 8K. Consumer 8K displays are rare, broadcast pipelines still mostly target 4K, and the workflow cost is heavy: file sizes scale linearly with pixel count, GPU pressure climbs, and brush latency on lower-end machines becomes a real problem.

Where it earns its keep is large-format work and video masters that need crop and reframe headroom. An 8K source can be cropped down to a 4K final frame and still hold detail, which is useful for documentary and effects pipelines. For static design, 4K source with upscaling at delivery looks identical and saves the workflow weight.

  • Large display work
  • Video masters

Pro tips

  1. 1 Reach for 8K when the destination is large-format display or when downstream cropping needs the headroom. Designing 8K for a 4K destination is wasted pixels.
  2. 2 File sizes climb fast at this resolution. Plan storage and review cycles accordingly.
  3. 3 On lower-end machines, 8K with heavy brush work hits responsiveness limits earlier than 4K. Test the actual workflow before committing.
