Ultrawide changes how compositions read. The 21:9 frame is wider than the eye scans in a single glance, which makes the format ideal for cinematic stills and immersive desktop wallpapers but awkward for layouts that need a strong centre. Whatever sits at the horizontal midpoint commands the most attention; the edges get peripheral treatment.

For wallpaper work, the practical constraint is icon placement. macOS and Windows both park icons on the right by default, so the right third of an ultrawide wallpaper tends to live under a grid of squares. Design accordingly.
