About this size
ANSI C is where engineering drawings outgrow office equipment. Most laser printers cannot handle 17 by 22 in stock, and the format moves to plotter territory. In return, the sheet provides enough room for medium-complexity assemblies with full title-block conventions and multiple view orthographics.
It also folds cleanly into standard drawing-sheet binders, which is the practical reason the size has stayed in the standard despite the plotter requirement.

Pro tips
- 1 Twice ANSI B in area. The first size in the series that requires a plotter rather than office equipment.
- 2 Folds cleanly into standard drawing-sheet binders. The physical storage pipeline is built around this size.
- 3 Standard for medium-complexity assembly drawings. Larger than office-equipment territory, smaller than full-blueprint scale.
