iPhone wallpaper design is a problem of avoidance more than placement. The top of the screen is occupied by the notch or Dynamic Island; the bottom is partially covered by the Home indicator; the middle is taken by the lock-screen clock by default. Whatever the design says has to work around those fixed elements.

Lighter wallpapers also lose contrast at the top because iOS dims the lock screen for clock legibility. Test the asset in both light and dark modes on an actual device before calling it done.
