About this size

The 3:1 panoramic ratio is wider than any common camera sensor delivers natively, which means most panoramic prints are stitched from multiple frames or cropped aggressively from a single ultrawide capture. Either approach requires planning during the shoot, not just during print.

Composition on a panoramic print rewards off-centre anchoring. A focal subject parked at the centre creates two equal-weight halves and rarely feels intentional; pulling the anchor to a third or two-thirds line gives the format the asymmetry that makes panoramic photography work.

Pro tips

  1. 1 3:1 aspect ratio. Native to stitched landscape photography and cropped cinema stills, awkward for almost everything else.
  2. 2 Frame the focal subject off-centre. Centred subjects on this aspect ratio rarely feel composed.
  3. 3 Watch the seams on stitched panoramas. Print scale exposes alignment errors that look clean on screen.
