About this size
A1 is where the A-series first becomes practical for routine large-format work. Most architectural offices in metric regions default to A1 for working drawings: large enough to show a complete floor plan at a useful scale, small enough that the sheet fits on a desk and folds for transport.
Engineering and design students also see A1 frequently as a portfolio and presentation size. The format reads as serious without becoming impractically large the way A0 does.

Pro tips
- 1 The standard architectural and engineering drawing size in metric regions. A1 carries professional weight in a way smaller A-sizes do not.
- 2 Fits on most large-format inkjet plotters. The pipeline is well-developed because of the architectural use.
- 3 Halves cleanly to A2 for smaller proofs and presentation reductions. A4 prints of an A1 layout read at one-eighth scale.
