about the size of a tabloid sheet

About this size

A3 is the largest A-size that fits in standard office equipment. Most laser printers with a Tabloid paper tray handle A3 natively, which makes it the practical step up when A4 is too small for the design but a trip to a print shop is not warranted.

The format also matches Tabloid (11 by 17 in) closely enough that the two are often interchangeable for office output, though the proportions differ slightly and the trim is not the same.

Pro tips

  1. 1 Fits most office laser printers configured for Tabloid output. A useful step up from A4 without leaving the office equipment pipeline.
  2. 2 A useful midpoint when A4 is too small. Larger format gives layout room without the workflow weight of A2 or A1.
  3. 3 Close to but not identical to US Tabloid (11 by 17 in). The proportions are slightly different; do not swap files between the two without checking trim.
