About this size
A0 is where the ISO 216 standard starts. The size is defined as one square metre of paper at a 1:√2 ratio, and every smaller A-size is derived by halving the previous one on the long edge. That makes A0 the parent of A4 (sixteen A0s stacked) and the largest sheet most plotter print shops handle without going to oversize formats.
For design work, A0 is the format for large posters, full-scale architectural drawings, and presentation boards meant to be approached and read from across a room. Standard office printers cannot output it; the whole pipeline assumes a plotter or large-format inkjet.

Pro tips
- 1 A0 is exactly one square metre. That definition is the mathematical anchor of the entire A-series; every smaller size is a halving from here.
- 2 Plotters or large-format inkjets are required. No standard office printer handles this size, and most home printers top out at A3.
- 3 Sixteen A4s tile to one A0. The geometry is precise enough that mock-ups can be assembled from standard office prints and taped together.
