About this size

The Wide Skyscraper is the vertical answer to the horizontal Leaderboard. Where Leaderboard banners sit across the top of a page, Skyscrapers run down the sidebar at a height that often matches or exceeds the article content next to them.

The 160 px width is the constraint. There is no room for long copy or layered hierarchy; the format works as a vertical stack of three or four discrete blocks read top to bottom.

Pro tips

  1. 1 Stack vertically. Top image, middle message, bottom CTA matches how the reader scans tall sidebar formats.
  2. 2 Limit copy. 160 px wide does not hold much before line breaks become awkward and the layout reads as cramped.
  3. 3 Reading paths end at the bottom. Anchor the CTA there; CTAs higher in the stack get skimmed past on long scrolls.
