Wallet prints are the smallest practical photographic print and the one most often produced in bulk for sharing. The 2 by 3 dimensions are exactly one-quarter of a 4 by 6 sheet, which means consumer photo printers traditionally produce them by laying four wallet prints onto a single sheet and trimming.
That trim is the design constraint. Consumer printers do not cut precisely to the 2 by 3 boundary, so anything within 0.125 in of the edge is at the trim's mercy.

- 1 Bulk wallet prints traditionally come from a single 4 by 6 sheet quartered. The production pipeline is built around this geometry.
- 2 Allow 0.125 in safe area for trim. Edges are not precise on consumer printers, and content in the outer band may not survive.
- 3 The smallest standard photo size that fits in wallet sleeves and small frames. Below this scale, photo prints stop reading as photos and start reading as stamps.
